EXTREME OUTLAW PRO MODS INVADE VMP FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
On Saturday, August 27, the EOPM invaded the beautiful facility at Virginia Motorsports Park for the second time this season with many of the same cast of characters that were present at the first event. Smithfield NC’s Jay Cox had “The Pumpkin” on the pole with Charlie Buck power with a strong 3.763 ET but “Two Time” Tommy Franklin had the Pat Musi powered Franklin family Camaro with the big MPH that seems SO easy for the Musi powerplants with a whopping 201.22 MPH and an ET of 3.795 for second place. This was followed by Randy Weatherford’s WS Construction Camaro at 3.80, Chris Rini making a comeback for the season with a 3.835 in the ATI Camaro. Five through eight were composed of Todd Howard, in the Jerry Williams Mustang, Brian Schrader’s Camaro in sixth, Jamie Chappell’s TM built ’63 Corvette and the Nova of Michael Graham in eighth. Jason Harris had mechanical troubles and did not run.
Eliminations resulted in first round winners Cox, Rini, Franklin, and Weatherford, all advancing to the
semis. Low ET of 3.76 gave Cox the advancing run to face Franklin, who ran a 3.79 to advance. Another
200 MPH plus run showed Franklin was more than ready to face Cox’ Bryant Rigging sponsored ride.
The final had Tommy Franklin running a 3.738 at 202.21 to win over Jay Cox’ very close 3.737. But it
was Musi power and big MPH winning again in the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod Association.
