FRANKLIN WINS EOPM, SUPER CHEVY EVENT AT VIRGINIA MOTORSPORTS PARK

If you believe the saying that “Third time is the Charm”, then the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod Association event at Virginia Motorsports Park on May 17 was a perfect example. With two previous events cancelled due to rain, racers were offered the possibility of a 16 car field with 4 qualifying sessions. When only 8 cars showed up, the qualifying was cut to 3 sessions with Lizzi Musi in the very unusual 8th spot and local favorite, “Top Fuel” Tommy Franklin in 7th. Both racers struggled in the 4 second range with Lizzi at a very unusual 4.74 and Franklin at 4.44. In 6th was local racer Buddy Perkinson’s Top Sportsman Camaro at 4.07, likewise Henry Underwood at 4.00. The top 4 cars were as follows: Tommy Gray’s “Undertaker” blown Corvette at 3.90, presenting sponsor Randy Weatherford in the WS Construction Camaro at 3.85. Musi power had John Camp in 2nd at 3.82 and on the pole, last years’ points champ, Jay Cox, in the Bryant Industrial Crane & Rigging “Pumpkin” ’69 Camaro with Charlie Buck power low qualifier with a great 3.79 at 200.65 MPH.

As we all know, there is always that car or driver on the property that can pull out a win and such was the case with Franklin and his Musi powered Camaro. Such was the case as Tommy took out redlighting John Camp in round one, Buddy Perkinson in round two. On the other side of the ladder, “running 3.80 and Tommy running his best et at 3.76 at 202 mph. Never count out “Popeye” Pat Musi and the hard working Franklin crew. The win gives the Franklin group 2 wins in 2 weeks, making them a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming PDRA event in Texas.

The EOPM would like to thank Randy Weatherford and WS Construction group for sponsoring this event with associate ATI transmission helping, as well. Also announced was that VP Fuels is now the official fuel of the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod Association.

Next up is the newly revamped, and historic, Darlington Dragway. Russ Miller and his folks will host the EOPM on June 25. Hope to see you there.
